Cognitive Psychology

This course investigates the internal mental processes of thought such as visual processing, learning, memory, problem solving, and language. This course provides an introductory survey of these human cognitive abilities. To this end,the scientific method will be utilized to explore the absolute thresholds of human sensation (psychophysics) and will demonstrate how human perception is prone to gross inaccuracy.

At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Describe the value and purpose of cognitive psychology

Develop a familiarity with a wide range of topics within cognitive psychology including Cognitive Neuroscience, Perception, Attention, Memory, Language, Problem Solving, and Decision Making

Demonstrate fundamental knowledge and comprehension of the major concepts, theoretical perspectives and historical trends related to the primary content and applied areas in psychology (biological, cognitive, developmental, social, and clinical)
